Mathura Vrindavan Tour

The twin cities of Mathura Vrindavan can be termed as Krishna janmabhoomi (birthplace), Krishna hometown, and his childhood memories. Counted among the seven sacred Hindu cities, Mathura Vrindavan occupies an important place on the world’s map. The twin cities also find their mention in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, making them prominent religious destinations in the country. During Janmashtami (Lord Krishna’s birthday) and Holi (the festival of colours), the cities come alive with enthusiasm.

One of the major attractions of Mathura is the Krishna Janma Bhoomi Temple. This was the place where Lord Krishna was born inside a prison cell, and the travelers who wish to witness the charm and fervor of the place must visit the temple during the festival of Janmashtami and Holi. This is the time when the temple complex echoes with chants.

Dwarkadhish Temple is another most visited holy place in Mathura established around 150 years ago. The architecture of the temple complex is highly impressive. The temple is called so because Lord Krishna had moved to Dwarka to settle there until his last breath.

Banke Bihari Mandir in Vrindavan is one of the famous Krishna temples where Lord Krishna is known by the name of Banke Bihari. Banke means ‘Bent in three places,’ whereas Bihari means ‘Enjoyer’ as you can see in a statute where the idols’ hands are folded to hold a flute with a leg folded standing pose. The main entrance of the temple is adorned with a dark yellow-brown colour with intricate traditional design.

Another popular attraction is the Prem Mandir, which is among the top tourist attractions located on the outskirts of Vrindavan. Dedicated to Sri Krishna and Sita Ram, the temple complex is beautifully built with white marbles displaying the stunning architectural wonder. Inside the temple, you can also witness many portraits of Krishna Leela, Govardhan Parwat Leela, and Krishna Kaliya Naag Leela and if you visit this Temple of Love, you are for sure to experience tranquility and bliss.

One can also plan a visit to the Kusum Sarovar in Mathura. It is a 450 feet long and 60 feet deep sarovar that charms the locals and travellers alike. Radha Kund of Mathura is also considered as sacred, and is believed to be formed by Lord Krishna who hit the earth and water emerged at this spot.

Other attractions in Mathura Vrnidavan are:

  • Gita Mandir
  • Vishram Ghat
  • Jama Masjid
  • Government Museum
  • Nidhivan Temple
