Allahabad is also renowned for being home to some of the well known colleges and research institutions. Known as the “Oxford of the East”, the city has given birth to some notable personalities such as Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Subhadra Kumari.
Anand Bhawan is another must visit attraction of Allahabad. It is a beautiful double storey building in an erstwhile ancestral home of the Nehru Family. The building has neatly preserved books, personal relics and photos belonging to the Nehru Family.
Triveni Sangam is another must visit attraction here. Triveni Sangam is the junction point of three rivers - Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. According to mythological beliefs, taking holy dip in the Sangam is supposed to flush away all the sins freeing from the cycle of rebirth. The water is clean enough at the Sangam for a bath, especially during the winters; and also not very deep, so it is fun to take a dip in the water here.
One of the most popular tourist destinations in Allahabad is the Khusro Bagh. The Bagh was built by King Jahangir for his son Khusro. The tombstone of the prince lies in this garden along with that of his mother Shah Begum.
